May the dreams defy the laws of gravity

Air Smolik on B737 Sim

Last few weeks have been for me just like the lyrics of the song Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel. My girlfriend, which I loved so much, recently broke up with me. And as I’ve been regreting the lost, I also got robbed in the night club. One can say pretty Troubled Water.

And than I’ve been offered a jump seat in a full motion simulator of Boeing 737. I spent there many and many hours during a past few weeks. I also managed to get some flying for myself during a breaks as well. And that was really that Bridge … Over Troubled Water.

I still feel very sad about the break up but at last I feel confident about a getting a job once again. As the Amelia Earhart said; “Fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. And … the process is its own reward.”

I’m happy for the opportunity to meet two captains, one from Ryanair and second one from Qantas. It’s been pleasure to get so many valuable informations. “Brano”, the Ryanair captain told me I would have better chance If I did type rating for B 737 in advance. Prior to the interview, considering Ryanair.

I’m still not sure if it is the best thing to do as it is a lots of money without a proper guarantee of work. But if it dramatically increases the chance of being accepted, therefore, it may be a good way though. Does anybody can give me any opinion?

Anyway, I was more than happy the to try B737 simulator. It was the great opportunity for to compare B737 and A320, as I’ve been to Airbus simulator before. I can tell for my self that Boeing wins. I hope I will have the opportunity to choose.

Having hands on Boeing I generally enjoyed more power to the pilot to actually fly the airplane. Old fashioned “horns” felt to me better than “side stick” and systems in the aircraft gave me a much more sense than on the Airbus.

I feel motivated and I want to keep moving forward! There is a line in The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry which goes like this; “And the pilot realizes that when life’s events are too difficult to understand, there is no choice but to succumb to their mysteries.”

Have a lovely weekend everybody! Btw how do you think I did for the first time? 🙂

I am so sorry about the girlfriend going. Even if it were the right thing, it’s still hard. And then being robbed. Which is worse… having your love leave, or your money stolen? Both painful. Maybe this is the question? Or maybe the reality is that you are so strong and when things seem the most bleak, there is a world of opportunity out there. Ahh… Girlfriend gone. Money gone. But I have me and I’m pretty dang good.

Good things will come your way! And in the long run, something good will come from all.

For the type rating. For me it worked great because I gained a ton of experience and was able to use it to teach. Helped me with my job. But… I know someone who bought a type to work for SWA…and wasn’t hired. The real question is… job aside… is this something that you would gain something from? Experience? For use on the international arena… I think A320 type ratings are more valuable. But then you need 500 hours to get a job. But…. if this will help with Ryan, and you have the money to invest in you, and your career… go for it.

But…if that job doesn’t pan out… you have to be at a point before you pay the money that you won’t regret your decision, either way.

Good luck! You’re headed for greatness!!!

Thank you very much Karlene. I do really appretiate your positive and always supporting attitude. Not only on the blog but on Twitter as well.

When I feel down I always remind myself my favourite Winston Churchill’s speech at Harrow School in 1941 … “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never. In nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

Regarding to type rating, I got an overwhelming response on Twitter as well. I can see an A320 type ratings are more valuable at this moment. But I really fall in love with Boeing so I will try first to apply for all companies with Boeing fleet. And if necessary, I will have to pay for the type rating by myself. Guys told me it rapidly increases ones rating on the airline’s interview.

I love that the speech! And if you can get that 737 type rating… go for it! Do all you can and the doors will open. BTW… I love the Boeing too!
