Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! Get all settled in, tray tables and seatbacks into upright locked positions. Electronic devices powered off. We are ready for push-back!
My name is Libor Smolik and my classmates at Oxford Aviation Academy called me “Air Smolik“. So when I was considering a name for my aviation blog back in 2012, the choice was quite obvious.
I’m a currently a display pilot and a manager of the aviation club at Podhořany airport in the Czech Republic. I spend most of my time around the collection of vintage aircrafts. The star in our hangar is an old Czechoslovakian Aero-145.
I’m currently studying towards of becoming an airline pilot. My love has always been a big jet plane. So wish me a luck later this year. A 737 is waiting. Only to get in there!
In the future I would love to see myself in a cockpit of British Airways aircrafts. Burning JET A-1 for living. And in the spare time to fly a Spitfire! I love warbirds. That’s why I’m always around at the airshows. To became a pilot on the warbird would be awesome. If you can dream it, you can do it.
One day I want to be Captain. Not only a Captain but an excellent one. Excellence through safety. One that is very aware of what is around, flight straight and level, but also know how navigate the seas of the sky, while soaring to maximum altitude.
So please join me on may way through the career which is about to begin.
And I hope that my story will inspire others to do the same. Make a blog, twitter, facebook page, whatever! Share it. Show the world how you followed your passion.

Favourite quote: “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never —in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
